Sorry I haven't been very good about posting on this blog. I will try and get better at regular postings. Juggling a full time job, compounded with kids, and planning for the future - keeps me VERY busy!
This year I felt was a very successful garden year. We planted an orchard and within our garden we learned a lot and have expanded with some additional new trials. For instance, we tried rhutabaga...
- which is fabulous! We will be growing a bunch more of that next season! We had some trouble with the beets but still managed to harvest enough for a big batch of pickled beets. We also tried garlic and will be expanding our garlic production next year as well.
All in all we had tomatoes, peppers, onions, rhutabagas, cabbage, brussel sprouts, corn, beets, garlic, and a variety of lettuces. Fruits include strawberries, blueberries, grapes, blackberries. We also planted an orchard - which I'll show photos of later in this post.
Shown below are some photos from the early part of the garden for 2011.
Blackberry starts and grapes are closest in the photo. In the raised beds are strawberries. Cabbage and brussel sprouts are behind the planter box.
In the above photo you can see our lettuces and green onions growing. Near the garage we tried to grow some chives and dill... The dill did o.k. there but the chives were overpowered by the bulb flowers.
And below is our orchard - however - the photo doesn't show the trees very well. Apples, Pears, Cherry and Peach. Look closely - you can see the tree protectors at the base of the trees. 10 trees
So in the near future - I will be expanding our garden! I look forward to next year's growing season already.
